Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Description

Ylang ylang is a yellow, star-shaped flower that is native to India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and parts of Australia. The flower is used to make essential oil by using steam distillation.

Ylang ylang and the essential have both proven benefits and uses based on anecdotal evidence.

Studies prove that it can boost mood, reduce depression, alleviate anxiety, lower blood pressure, decrease heart rate, stimulate oil production in the skin and scalp, repel flying insects and kill bug larvae.

It also has been used for many decades as a traditional, herbal treatment for conditions such as stomach distress, rheumatism, gout, malaria, headache, and pneumonia.

Ylang ylang contains linalool, a compound with antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. A small study even found that ylang ylang can reduce anxiety and boost self-esteem.

Some people use ylang ylang as an aphrodisiac and for sexual stimulation. However, its benefits in this area are mostly anecdotal.
